This plant's attractions are evergreen silvery blue foliage and red burr flowers. I hope I get to see those burrs - so far, I haven't been too successful keeping acaenas alive. This species, which I grew from seed in 2004, failed to overwinter except for one plant - pictured here. It is set in the raised bed in our side garden - should get good drainage, yet fairly reliable moisture. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Update: it did not survive. I think I'll give up on acaenas for the time being.
