Actaea simplex 'Brunette'

Common name black snakeroot; bugbane
Family ranunculaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers pink (fall)
Size 5-6'
Light sun-part shade

Cultivar with dark purplish stems and leaves, and pink flowers. After trying to start this and its cousins from seed many times, without success, I broke down and bought a plant. So far, it's well worth it. Its new foliage is delightful - a dark purple-tinged green, finely cut, offsetting even darker stems.

In our garden, this plant grows in the following area: arbor zone

Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list
