One of the noxious weeds of the US. A relative of the morning glory, with similar flowers that are actually quite pretty, but with designs to take over whatever space they set root in. Probably more of a nuisance in agriculture than in gardens, but it still makes for a good bit of work in our garden, since it's difficult to dig up the plants with all the roots (and if you don't, it will be back!).
I received a friendly email from a convolvulaceae connoisseur who placed the plant shown in the photo here as Calystegia sepium - in which case I almost definitely grow both species, I've just been too lazy to figure out which is which. I'll try to get side-by-side photos next season... In the meantime, this page has some identification information.
