From what I've read, an oddity among delphiniums. Ours, grown from traded seed, look rather like our D. delavayi, at least in the shape of the flowers - but the back ends (such a technical term!) aren't as curvy as delavayi's. The leaves are quite different, so they make for an easier distinction. Also, the seeds are dark bronze, rather than black.
