Echium plantagineum

 
Common name viper's bugloss

Flowers various colors, white-lavender-blue (summer)
Size 2-3'
Light sun
Cultural notes well-drained soil

Marvellous larger annual. It is a noxious weed (also known as "Paterson's curse") in Australia, but doesn't have that status here. We grew it on the back yard island hill last year. I hope it reseeds!
