We planted this famous (at least in botanical circles) tree in our front yard to celebrate the birth of our middle child, Benjamin. The small tree had a few flowers the next season, but none last year. We're hoping for a few this year - but even more, we're hoping for this tree to come into its own and take off. It hasn't grown much since it was planted, and may be living up to its name as a finnicky tree in our garden. Both this year and last, the leaf buds that formed in fall didn't survive the winter - new growth (bright red!) sprouted from the bare branches. Finally, it gave up altogether. We're growing new plants from seed this year, and will give the seedlings a friendlier place in our garden.
