This was one of the trees in a ten-pack from the Arbor Day Society. I planted it in a nursery area, proceeded to lose track of what it was, and needed the help of GardenWeb ID experts to figure out its identity. Then it got planted out in the back yard, where it apparently didn't settle in quite enough, because the next year, the top growth was dead. But new shoots came up from the soil line, and by the end of the year, the tree was just as tall as it had been. And this time, it seems hardier - that is to say, growth is coming back from up and down the whole tree. In subsequent years, it has bloomed, although not as attractively as I'd hoped. Perhaps in years to come the yellow flowers will multiply and become less muddy in their coloration. For now, I like the seedpods better than the flowers.
