By the time July rolled around in their first year (having been started in late winter), these plants were little marvels of tightly cropped shiny thick leaves, with a decidedly succulent appearance. My first attempt from seed was unsuccessful: the seedlings didn't make it through a full year in our garden. Try number two worked out better, giving me second-year plants inhabiting both the rock garden and a small hypertufa trough on our patio. By early June they sent up their bare branched flower-stems; tiny flowers appeared by early July.
