I've seen this described as a small shrubby plant, but thus far it has behaved as a herbaceous perennial in our garden. Our oldest plants are only in their second year, and still have a sparse habit - but I've seen photos of wonderful massed flowers, so I'm hopeful to get a better show in years to come.
