This small stonecrop, purchased at a hardy plant society sale, has been in our garden for two seasons now, and it has yet to bloom. The foliage is rather like that of S. kamtschaticum, but with a blue-green rather than plain green color. Nomenclature is somewhat confused, see discussion below.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away... About my plant portraits
Visitors to this page have left the following comments| Gal Attila | Feb 27, 2005 | As far as I know the name of this plant correctly is: Sedum pachyclados. Thanks for your input. Neither species name appears in GRIN, and Google references are about evenly split. I will add S. pachyclados as an additional synonym to my page, until I get this sorted out. |
| James Cheshire | Jul 30, 2005 | Hi Rob, the correct name for this plant is Rhodiola pachyclados. Here's the link to the species page in Flora of Pakistan: tinyurl.com/aodkv.
Incidentally, Platycladus is a monotypic conifer genus, the single species being P. orientalis (chinese arborvitae). I think someone in horticulture just got this confused with the similar-sounding pachyclados (which means thick branch/shoot) and the name stuck. Excellent, James. Thanks much - I will update my page. |
