Tucked unobtrusively between larger plants in our shade garden, this one is hardly noticeable until it blooms - but when it does, we take notice, especially since by that time (October) it is one of only a few splashes of color in the garden.

Does your plant spread vegetatively? Have you ever collected seeds from this species? I checked all of the calyces of my plant and never saw a seed, green or ripe.
I've not tried to collect seeds, and received it as a live plant in a trade. It has a reputation for spreading somewhat, but mine hasn't - my shade garden is too crowded for it to exert itself agressively. |
