Ironically, I had tried to grow this from traded seed indoors this winter. My attempts were unsuccessful, but lo - in early June a lanky plant that I hadn't particularly noticed till that point started blooming. Sure enough, it was yellow salsify. No idea how it got there, or even whether I should classify this page as a plant portrait or a weed portrait. Let's go with the former for now.
