Mountain mints are characterized by very aromatic foliage (coming from me, that's saying a lot), with an undefinable, not really minty scent. Flowers have white centers with purple-speckled outer petals, in tight clusters - you have to get up very close to discern the color patterns. Somehow, we wound up with two types of plant that I considered to be P. tenuifolium, to the best of my recollection grown from the same batch of seed. The first kind I now consider to be the true species has fresh-green, thread-like narrow leaves, purplish when they first emerge. The other kind is now described at the portrait for P. virginianum, even though I am not sure of its real identity.
