Acantholimon venustum

Acantholimon venustum

Common name prickly thrift
Family plumbaginaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers pink (summer)
Size 4-6"
Light sun
Cultural notes well-drained soil

Grassy-leaved tufted rock garden perennial. Out of my attempts to start two different species of Acantholimon this year, I got exactly one seedling: the one pictured here. Looks nice even at this stage, so I hope it survives out in the open garden. It will go into the rock garden when it reaches a viable size.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...

Seed-starting details for this plant

  1. Seed from NARGS '10/'11 exchange. Baggy 70F (7%G, 5d); rest of seeds seemed empty, probably duds
