Allium rotundum ssp. jajlae |
 |
Synonym(s) |
Allium scorodoprasum ssp. jajlae |
Common name |
purple-flower garlic |
Family |
liliaceae |
Life cycle |
perennial |
Flowers |
purple |
Rounded flowerheads on this allium; on close-up inspection the individual petals are a subtle bicolor, but from a bit further away the flower clusters look like deep pink-purple balls. Only a few flowers so far on our second-year plants, but they have the potential to be nicer in overall appearance than most of the other round-headed onions I've tried.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits
