Allium schoenoprasum

Common name chives
Family alliaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers pink (spring)
Size 2'
Light sun-part shade
Cultural notes ordinary garden soil
From seed self-seeds in our garden

Ah, lowly chives! They're relegated to the herb garden, where they serve as a wonderful source of oniony flavor in salads, dips, and other foods - but come May, they are among the prettiest things in the whole garden! Ours seed themselves around a good bit, but they're not difficult to remove where not needed.

Allium schoenoprasum

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.

One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog
