Native to the United States interior west, where it grows in gravelly soils. The inch-sized flowers occur in clusters of up to a dozen. Its seeds are larger than those of other amsonias I've grown, looking like miniature cigars, about a half inch in length. Seedlings have willowy mid-green leaves.
