Anagallis monelli 'Blue Light' |
 |
Clear blue flowers on compact plants. Grown as an annual in our zone. Which makes it kind of silly that I only planted it in our nursery holding beds. Oh well, better luck next year - the flowers are pretty wherever they happen to live, anyway.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away... One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog About my plant portraits

Blake | Jun 24, 2012 | I tried keeping these alive through our zone 5 winter, by keeping them inside on a window ledge with a cracked window. I figured halfway between indoor and outdoor temperature would give it the tip to hibernate without getting too cold. But they all died. I would try again with the planter in the basement.
These are a pain to germinate.. They get quite vulnerable to damping off and have very thin stems. I had best luck germinating them in soil, buried 1cm deep. But the stems keep growing quite tall, so I don't fill the pot all the way. Once the seedlings have grown to a stable level, I will top up the soil so that it comes to just under the first set of leaves.
Be very gradual with sun, they can die in one day of harsh sun at the seedling stage.
I also recommend cutting them back because they get leggy and the wind will blow over a single plant. |
