Perennial wildflower native to a large stretch of North America. Like other milkweeds, it is a host plant to monarch butterflies. Some years it pops up all over our garden, other years I don't see any. This year I decided to let a few grow, rather than rooting them out before they bloom. A couple years later, they (or their offspring) rose tall above the other plantings in our curve garden, displaying their ball-like clusters of purple flowers by mid-June (we had an early spring this year).
