From internet descriptions, I gathered this is mostly a weed. But we grow lots of weeds, so this one got its chance in our garden as well. Sure enough, it's not the most refined of garden plants, but I was pleasantly surprised by its narrowly upright habit and pretty buds just before they open. Once open, they look like any knapweed (or bachelors button) flowers, of the purple variety. I'll watch their habit through the rest of the year, to decide if they can come back for another season.
