Glossy-leaved shrub with fragrant pendant yellow flowers in winter. Can be pruned as a small tree. Yellow autumn foliage. Borderline hardy in our garden (some list it hardy as only to zone 7), but my seedlings survived the fairly harsh winter of '15 (shown at right in early May '15), so I have good hope for them.

I have read that Chimonanthus praecox luteus doesn't necessarily come true from seed and that you can never tell what you'll end up with. I hope that mine will be just as yellow and fragrant as the parent plant. It'll be a long wait until I find out. |
