Soon after arriving in the Houston area, we purchased a 'Lisbon' lemon which produces fruit in early spring on thorny branches. It was reported to be more cold-resistant than some other common varieties once established, but alas – we had a killing freeze a few months later and our lemon perished. So to replace it, we bought a 'Meyer Improved' lemon the next spring, which we intend to keep as a potted plant. During the summer it lives out on the pond-side patio. This variety can grow to 6-13', but we expect ours to stay a good bit smaller.

| The only citrus to survive (albeit barely) from the Texas megafreeze of Feb '21, no doubt helped by a generous layer of mulch and a blanket cover |
