Ever since sowing a "wildflower mix" many years ago, we've had this charming annual in our gardens. Its colors are always a bit of a surprise (one of my favorites is a solid burnt-red one), although most of ours now tend to the colors in the photos. The photo at left is also typical for another reason: the plants tend to flop over, and therefore mingle with other plants (in this case, a St. John's wort). Although you can fuss at its untidy habit, it sometimes makes for cool, unexpected combinations.
