Cornus florida

Cornus florida
flowering dogwood
Two years later, the treelet hasn't put on any growth to speak of, but it does have nice fall coloring

Common name flowering dogwood
Family cornaceae
Life cycle tree
Flowers white, pink, or red (mid-spring)
Light part shade
Seed ripenslate October

We're pleased that our red flowering dogwood, grown from a sprig bought at a local discount nursery, has survived (several before haven't), and is blooming! It's still a small tree (5 ft or so), but we're looking forward to seeing it grow up. Hopefully, the honey locust in its vicinity will provide it with some shade in future years.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
