Forms a low-growing mat of succulent foliage, with bright pink ray flowers from summer into late fall. Some years I thought I'd lost my specimen (it used to be kind of lost in an overcrowded corner of our front perennial bed), only to be surprised by an electric pink flower when I least expected it. Eventually, our original plant gave up the ghost, and several years later I re-established some plants from seed. They are now growing in the rock garden, where they should be happier in the long run.

| Flowers close at night, and only open when bright light returns |

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog About my plant portraits

I know the mother plant is not dying and being rejuvinated by seeds because it's evergreen here and it hangs over the sides of my upraised beds. I pulled out a 5 gallon bucket full and threw in the ditch this spring because it's spreading so much. |
