Chinese species, lower-growing with fine-frilly leaves. I planted the two seedlings that survived their first winter on the slightly more protected north side of our rock garden, where the sun doesn't beat down all day. They bloomed in their shocking blue color, yet in a charming way, from late June into July.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits

Visitors to this page have left the following commentsCarol Kerr Cedar Springs Mi. Zone 5 | Jul 06, 2017 | I have a Delphinium labeled D. pylzowii. I have had is since May 2008. It matches the photos above perfectly. It was a small plant but survived a neighbor dog digging it up twice. Once putting a used diaper in the hole. I just measured this plant and it is 46" tall, this is how it normally grows. Certainly not short lived here as I read. I treasure it and am going to divide it next spring. Because of illness it didn't get cut back last fall and I haven't found any seedling. I'm growing it in normal, ammended garden soil. THANK-YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL AND USEFUL SITE!! |
