Seed ripens | early June |
Whispy stems carrying clusters of white flowers, held well above low-growing tufts of small, dark green leaves. Circum-polar distribution, occurring naturally in mountain habitats.
First flowers appeared in May of their second year, for the plant growing in a trough, and a couple weeks later for the plant growing in the open rock garden. As shown in the photos above, the flowering stems elongate as blooming progresses, as is common in brassicaceae. The plants don't look much like photos I've seen of the species, so there is a good chance this is a different species.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list About my plant portraits
