Tennessee coneflower is endangered in its native habitat. Bee and butterfly flower. Flower shape is different from common purple coneflower: the rays go straight out (or even curl up) instead of down, and are narrower and typically paler. The whole plant is smaller. We like it a lot, and keep starting new plants from seed to replace the plants, which only last a few years each.

In our garden, this plant grows in the following areas: back yard island, orchard nursery area, sale plot

Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list

Seed-starting details for this plant

  1. Seed from '00 trade. 35F (6w), 65F (47%G, starting 3d). Additional cold cycle didn't increase germination

  3. Seed from '02 garden. 35F (11w), 65F (80%G, 8d)
  4. Seed from '02 garden. 35F (10w), 65F (50%G, 3-9d)

  6. Same seed as above. Baggy 35F (13w) - 70F (75%G, 2-11d)
  7. Seed from '06 garden. Baggy 35F (13w) - 70F (90%G, 3-9d)

Appears to benefit from a long cold stratification period. Seedlings are finnicky - typically, not all survive.
