Globularia repens

Globularia repens
matted globe daisy

Synonym(s) Globularia nana
Common name matted globe daisy
Family plantaginaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers blue (late spring)
Size 4"
Light sun

Subshrub of small proportions. It gets the same blue button flowers as other globularias we've grown, but on a smaller scale, with, as the species name suggests, a creeping habit: foliage doesn't grow higher than about 2 inches, with flowers on short stems above, perhaps to 4". It's happy in our rock garden.

Globularia repens

In late February, when even the perennials that maintain some chlorophyll mostly look decidedly shabby, this globe daisy pops out with verdant green. Very welcome, in the drab days before spring's arrival.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.

One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog
