Helenium autumnale

Helenium autumnale
This one looks like 'Flammenspiel', but it came up in a different part of the garden
Helen's flower, sneezeweed
Helenium autumnale
this is the 'Flammenspiel' we purchased

Common name Helen's flower, sneezeweed
Family asteraceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers yellow/orange/red (summer-fall)
Size 4-5'
Light sun
Cultural notes ordinary garden soil (not too dry)
From seed Germinate at room temperature with exposure to light.

Tall upright plant that provides its flowers in late summer and fall, when the garden really needs the color. The flowers are daisies with big knobby center discs, with a friendly, unassuming air. We have the plain species, flowering yellow, in our orchard, and the cultivar 'Flammenspiel', with orange-red flowers, in our front perennial border.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.

One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog
