This subspecies, native to the U.S. Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas, has an erect growth habit, and carries many sunflowers (yellow with a purple-brown center) over a long season of bloom. Supposedly a bit of a thug where it is hardy, but were just growing it as an annual.
