Evergreen species from Madagascar with deeply lobed leaves, and light pink flowers with a dark purple center. Quite unlikely to be hardy in our Houston garden, if in fact my seed-grown plants are the real thing – apparently there are a lot of plants out there labeled as this species that are something else altogether. But I'm already seeing flowers in late spring after an early-spring sowing, so whatever I'm growing, it can be enjoyed as an annual. Unlike other hibiscus species and related genera in our garden, this one hasn't shown any inclination to develop seeds, even though several seed-grown specimens are growing in close proximity – all grown from traded seed, so it must be something about the growing conditions in our setting.
