Hibiscus grandiflorus

Common name velvet mallow
Family malvaceae
Life cycle perennial (Z7-10)
Flowers pink (late summer)
Size to 8'
Light sun
Cultural notes prefers moist soil

This may just be hardy in our zone 6 garden. If it is, I look forward to its felted grey maple leaves and large pink flowers in late summer. Native to the Southeast US, where it grows in fresh and brackish marshes. We may try it in our big pond's bog filter.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
