Now here's an unusual rose of sharon! It has cream-and-green variegated foliage, attractive all growing season long, and dark maroon button flowers. Buttons, because they never open up like a regular rose of sharon flower does. This not only looks cool, but it also makes them last a lot longer. I'm surprised this is not more commonly grown.

They are striking and the flowers very unusual - look like big berries. Mine are now about 6 feet high and 3-4 feet wide. Just love them because they are so unusual. However, they don't produce babies or seeds. |
| Laura | Sep 28, 2005 | Was given this plant in a 4 inch pot . This year I placed it in the ground and hope it will do well . The foliage is striking and great for contrast.

| john sanders | Sep 15, 2009 | relieved to hear the buds don't open into big blooms - or is it just they need a lot of warmth? The flowers stay in their compact form, regardless of summer heat. This year I noticed a single flower had fully opened, but I'm sure it was just a fluke. |
