Iris cristata

Iris cristata
dwarf crested iris

Common name dwarf crested iris
Family iridaceae
Life cycle perennial (Z3-9)
Flowers blue (April)
Size 6-9"
Light sun-part shade
Cultural notes moist soil

Northeast US native, happiest in part shade with reliable moisture. When our plant finally bloomed after several years of not doing much of anything, it displayed a clear blue flower, different from the lavender blooms I see on most online references – so ours may in fact be something different. The stature and habit seems to match, though.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
