Juniperus sp.

Juniperus sp.

Common name juniper
Family cupressaceae
Life cycle tree
Size 10' and growing

Compared to our skyrocket juniper (which sits on the other side of our front door along the facade of the house), this one is bushier, but more importantly, pricklier (dressing it with Christmas lights is a painful experience). It's not the handsomest of evergreens, but serves a useful purpose in its own little corner. The photo at left was taken in the middle of January.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
