Several cultivars of this species are smaller than the typical red hot pokers. I'm not sure of the heritage of the seed for which I traded, but was pleased to see the first flower, with colors varying from soft orange to yellow, in early May on a second-year plant – indeed on a low-stature plant, but I'll wait until my plants are more mature to judge their habit.
