Prairie wildflower, attractive to butterflies. Forms bulb. The flowers aren't clustered at tightly on the flower stalk as they are on the more common Liatris spicata, giving rise to a groomed-poodle look. Blooms later than L. spicata, on a much taller plant. I liked the look of the budding plant before the flowers opened (photo at right) as much as the plant in full bloom. Several of our plants flopped in a late-summer thunderstorm - a little staking may be helpful.
