Liatris microcephala

Synonym(s) Lacinaria microcephala
Common name dwarf blazing star
Family asteraceae
Life cycle perennial (Z4-7)
Flowers violet (late summer)
Size 18-24"
Light sun
Cultural notes drought-tolerant

This blazing star has grassy leaves and forms multiple flower stems - not nearly as upright as our stand-by L. spicata. I've grown it from seed several times, but always have a problem with its survival through first summer and winter.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...
