Lilium formosanum

Lilium formosanum
formosa lily
Spent seedheads, shown here in late November, have their own charm

Common name formosa lily
Family liliaceae
Life cycle perennial bulb (Z5-8)
Flowers white (August)
Size 6'
Light full sun
Cultural notes likes rich soil, not too dry
From seed easy, germinates at room temperature
detailed seed-starting info below
Seed ripensmid-November

Large trumpet-shaped flowers on upright stalks. Ours are blooming in their second summer, but are nowhere near the six foot stature that references say they will attain. Impressive flowers, though, and the long striped buds are cool too. It's later to return than many other lilies (ours just started peeking up in late April), so be patient with it...

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...
