Lilium superbum

Lilium superbum

Common name Turk's cap lily
Family liliaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers orange
Size 6'
Light sun-part shade
Cultural notes prefers rich moist soil

Wildflower native to the eastern U.S. Downward-facing speckled orange-red flowers with strongly recurved petals. I've actually not seen those yet on my one surviving plant, but I did notice bulbils in the leaf joints along the stem in June.
Note: my plant is more likely Lilium lancifolium (syn. L. tigrinum)

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
