Linaria purpurea

Linaria purpurea
Common name purple toadflax
Family scrophulariaceae
Life cycle perennial (Z5-9)
Flowers violet (late spring-summer)
Size 2-3' tall, 1-2' wide
Light full sun
Cultural notes average soil; drought-tolerant

Low-maintenance perennial, with a long season of bloom. Cut back after initial bloom to promote more flowering. We're not sure if the pink-flowered one on the right is L. purpurea, but it shares many of the same characteristics (free-seeding, perennial).

This volunteer surprised us by coming out of nowhere to bloom nicely at the end of October

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
