Tree (often multi-trunked or shrub-like) native to the southeastern and mid-Atlantic United States. Its creamy white, cup-shaped, fragrant flowers are smaller than those of many other magnolias (2-3" diameter); they appear in mid-spring and sporadically through summer and evolve into fruits with bright red seeds in autumn. Elongated leaves are shiny green on top with silvery undersides, evergreen in the warmer parts of its range.
