Species occurring in the mountains of New Mexico in association with coniferous trees. Flowers arranged loosely along upright stems; the lanceolate leaves are smooth-margined. My third-year plant is looking pretty healthy – it must not have minded the big layer of snow on its head last winter!

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits
