Grows from a woody base, producing pretty violet-pink flowers toward the middle of June. The flowers are about medium-sized for penstemons, and are smooth (not soft-hairy, like many other penstemons). The leaves are pointy, and slightly serrated. So far, ours has grown to less than a foot tall in its second year, but is already giving a nice show of flowers.
