New growth in 2006

A cone! Common name Japanese red pine; tanyosho pine Family pinaceae Life cycle coniferous tree (Z3-7) Size 40-60' Light sun Cultural notes well-drained soil Slow-growing pine with red bark and often an interesting, irregular growth pattern. Popular for use in bonsai. Ours is of primary school age, and still isn't even close to making a statement in the garden. It did however produce its first cone in 2007.
