Large, attractively veined, rich green leaves, similar to heuchera, stay low, with flower stalks rising well above. As the oddly fringed flowers age, they turn from white to pink, creating an interesting two-tone effect. Native to the US.
I grew plants from two seed sources. One was labeled Boykinia occidentalis, but that one has very differently shaped flowers. An astute reader of this website set me straight - I still hope to grow the real boykinia some day.

Seedling are weak, succumb to damp-off easily. Seed apparently has low long-term viability.
