Toxicodendron radicans

Toxicodendron radicans

Common name poison ivy
Family anacardiaceae
Life cycle perennial vine
Flowers white
Light sun-shade
From seed distributed by birds

The most dreaded weed of all, for me - I'm terribly allergic to poison ivy, and three weeks of misery is my lot if I get a good case. Luckily, it's not rampant in our garden - about a half-dozen times a year, I'll find a plant (usually a small one, sometimes a bit larger like the one pictured) in one of our garden areas, and carefully remove it. This is just about the only garden waste that goes into the trash instead of the compost.

This is a weed in our garden
