Tragopogon porrifolius |
 |
Raised from traded seed labeled "Tragopogon croculifolia", I'm pretty sure this is instead purple salsify - a wildflower with culinary uses. Not exactly suitable for the tidy perennial border, with its lanky upright growth, but welcome in messier beds. Probably biennial - our plants made nice healthy clumps in their first year, and sent up their flowerstalks in May of the following year. We'll see if it chooses to self-seed.
