Native to damp meadows in Siberia. Frillier leaves, and flowers earlier than T. chinensis. According to one reference, it seldom sets seed; since I grew mine from traded seed, the identity will be tentative until the plants mature in our garden. Thus far, one plant has flowered, and it looks mostly like our T. europaeus.

Clothier suggests treating at room temperature, followed by a period of freezing, for germination at cool temperature. Since ours germinated in sufficient numbers during the first warm period, I did not attempt the subsequent stages.
